Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Warriors Group

Since the launch of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with deep backstory, a wide array of heroes, and a gripping narrative including angels, fiends, and dark forces increasing in power within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Spoilers for the latest installment of this adventure lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Unveiled

The third episode concluded with a major cliffhanger and revealed the premier party of heroes who will separate from the main group to embark on their own adventure, distinct from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table features the determined fighter (played by Travis), Thimble (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), the cleric (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

With a large ensemble, it was evident from the beginning that having everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

Hence, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, connecting the personal journeys before dividing into three distinct groups: Fighters, Schemers, and Seekers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

As described by Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for players who prefer a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven story mode where non-violent answers are scarce.

Upon first impression, figures such as the squeamish cleric Wicander Halovar might look mismatched, but the actions of episode 3 show why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the party has a clear idea where to go next after a brutal initial meeting with the antagonists.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose passing started the narrative’s action—exploited the foes for his selfish purposes, invading Thjazi’s hideout, striking the rogue, and taking all the magical artifacts to auction.

Casimir then paid off his obligations and escaped to a fortified location in the remote area, above the city, with Cyd Pridesire hot on his heels.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each member has a specific drive to depart the urban setting:

  • Thimble, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, wants retribution.
  • Kattigan knows the region and warns that it is a dangerous environment.
  • The strong character and Wicander, having resisted his family’s wishes to execute the fighter and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their status as prominent individuals in House Halovar could assist the group enter areas they usually can’t.
  • Additionally, The fighter swore a eternal obligation to Wicander for his rescue and will now go with him wherever.

Fugitives

In addition, all of them are hunted by the rulers that control Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making remaining behind too risky:

  • Thimble and The character are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and Wicander turned against House Halovar and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • The target is marked for death by the family.

This means them no alternative but to head to Timmony in search of the traitor.

Future Episodes

From episode three’s Cooldown, we find out that the warrior group won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight cast members to form the Seekers and Planners tables.

Viewers can expect learning which adventurers will be where in the story’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on next week.
